If you're going to San Francisco....you'd better bring some warm clothes.
It's a cold and windy city, especially on the ocean side (near Fisherman's Wharf). Although the scenery is beautiful, I don't know if I could live in SF. It's too damn cold for my taste.
Yesterday as we didn't have a lot of options we thought that visiting San Francisco would be a great idea.
As we don't have a car we took the Cal Train and after an hour and 20 mins we arrived in SF.
Once arrived we found out that we had no idea what to visit and where to go so we spent another hour or so figuring out the directions and the various things to do.
We ended up deciding to go to the
Fisherman's Wharf. On the bus we were fortunate to find some ppl that were locals and they've pointed to us some places that we should visit.
Once we arrived @ the Fisherman's we ate one of the most popular local dishes: "
clam chowder served in a bowl of
sourdough bread". Then we started looking around at some of the stores we had seen during the "Scavenger Hunt". We purchased some postal cards to send @ home and we found a couple of photographic stores. The funny thing was that we could buy a D200 from those stores in the 800-900 price range. Which as ...at least one of you ... knows is quite unbelievable (the d200 costs ~2000). I think that all those were either refurbished or something fishy is going on.
Then we took a cable car which left us near the cable car museum. The
cable car system in SF is very very interesting.
The feeling that you have when riding one of those in SF resembles the feelings you get in a rollercoaster(As you might know San Francisco is built on a series of hills).
We also visited the Cable Car museum and we saw the motors that power the system(the cars don't have engines they just use the cables to move at a top speed o 9.5 mph).
From there we went to ChinaTown. It's like walking into another city. On the narrow streets you can't see the big skyscrappers, and looking at the arhitecture, shops and all the other stuff that surrounds you, you really feel like you are in an asian city.
The last things that we saw in SF were 2 streets were there are a lot of shops (famous brands and stuff), where we entered an Apple shop :-o. ZOMG ZOMG ZOMG I want an apple. In that area we also had dinner in an Irish pub(pretty good and kinda' cheap).
When we finished our dinner it was already late so we went to the CalTrain station and got back to MV.
Next time in SF we'll do a lot of shopping.
The pictures(
Vlad i think there is a problem with the software that I'm using to resize the jpegs :(. It uses a stupid filter and the pics loose a lot of their quality.):
